How does online learning work?
BG School has a membership-only area which has a mix of learning content – written, audio, video, worksheets, workbooks, ebooks etc. All you need to access the course material is a decent internet connection and an up-to-date browser like Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome.
Is there a set time when I need to sign in?
Nope. This is self-paced, so show up whenever you like and read as much or as little as you like. This isn’t a live course because students are from all over the globe and, of course, have their own lives and schedules. New content days are indicated on each course and most content normally appears by 1pm GMT on the designated day. Access when it’s convenient to you. The only time there is ever a set time is if you want to attend a ‘live class’. These account for less than 5% of the course and are an ‘extra’ that you’re not obliged to attend. They’re also recorded, so again, access at a time that is convenient to you.
How do I access my course material?
Normally, 48 hours beforehand, you will receive your login information along with the link for accessing your course page when it goes live on your course date. On the day your course is due to start, you will receive another email notifying you that your course is live. You can login with your login link once you have been set up and it will automatically show your course page.
How do I interact with the course leaders and fellow students?
The comments are open on most posts and you will be invited to join a private Facebook group for each cohort as well.
Will I be ‘graded’?
Er, no. This is a learning environment but there are no exams. This course is about the journey not the destination.
Can you tell me more about what I can expect to find when I log in?
You should arrive at your course page. During your course you can watch videos, read course materials, view slide shows, listen to audio, download workbooks, worksheets and ebooks.
How do I get technical help?
There are guidelines for reporting technical issues once you are logged in. If you use these, issues are normally resolved in seconds or minutes.
Will there be more courses?
How often are courses offered?
Each course will run 3-5 times a year.
Do I need special software to do this course?
No. What you do need is an up-to-date internet browser like Safari, Google Chrome or Firefox and a decent internet connection, especially if you’re watching videos or dialling in to a live class or web meet. Course are compatible with PCs and Macs. Most material is downloadable so you will need a PDF reader like Preview or Adobe Acrobat (one comes with your computer) and if you want to be able to type into files then you will need Pages/Word.
How long do I have access for?
This depends on your course. Access is normally either 6 or 12 months. Extended access can be purchased. Access to the student only Facebook group is lifetime access.
